Cortado Bombón
A sweet, layered Spanish coffee combining equal parts espresso and sweetened condensed milk, creating a visually striking and rich beverage.

The Base
Pour the dense, sweetened condensed milk into the bottom of a small, clear glass.
The Extraction
Extract a single shot of espresso. To maintain the distinct layers, carefully pour the espresso over the back of a small spoon so it gently cascades and floats on top of the condensed milk.
Adding Milk (Optional)
If a slightly softer profile is desired, a very small amount of lightly textured hot milk can be poured over the espresso, creating a third layer.
Service
Serve immediately with a small stirring spoon. The drinker must thoroughly mix the layers together to integrate the intense sweetness of the milk with the bold coffee before drinking.
The Cortado Bombón, widely enjoyed in Spain (where it is often simply called a Café Bombón), is an indulgent variation of the traditional cortado. While a standard cortado cuts the acidity of espresso with an equal amount of steamed milk, the Bombón replaces the standard milk with thick, sweetened condensed milk.
Because sweetened condensed milk is significantly denser than brewed coffee, the two liquids naturally separate, creating a beautiful, stark visual contrast when served in a traditional small clear glass: a bright white layer at the bottom and a dark espresso layer crowned with crema at the top. The beverage acts as both a coffee and a sweet confection, offering a rich, syrupy texture and a flavor profile that heavily balances the bitter roast notes of the espresso with intense sweetness.
